Croydon Dental Practice · Preventive care
A professional scale and polish helps keep gums healthy, removes plaque and tartar and freshens breath. Hygiene appointments are part of everyday care at our dentist in Croydon on Lower Addiscombe Road.
Even with careful brushing, plaque can harden into tartar in places a toothbrush cannot reach. A hygiene visit cleans those areas and gives you the tools to keep your mouth healthy between appointments.
We look at your gums for signs of inflammation or bleeding, which can be early signs of gum disease.
Plaque and hardened tartar are carefully removed from around and between your teeth and along the gum line.
Teeth are polished to lift surface staining and leave them feeling smooth and fresh.
Practical guidance on brushing, flossing and cleaning between your teeth, tailored to your mouth.
Every clinician at the practice is registered with the General Dental Council. Diane also works with our orthodontic team, so she understands the extra cleaning challenges that come with braces and aligners.
Gum disease often develops quietly. Early signs include gums that bleed when you brush, redness or puffiness along the gum line, and persistent bad breath. Left untreated, it can lead to receding gums and loose teeth, so regular cleaning and checks are worthwhile.
Hygiene visits help most adults, and they are especially useful if your gums bleed when you brush, you notice bad breath, or you have staining from tea, coffee or smoking.
Patients wearing braces or clear aligners can find it harder to clean around brackets and wires. As a practice with an in-house orthodontic team, we can help you keep your teeth and gums healthy throughout treatment.
A professional polish is also a good starting point if you are thinking about teeth whitening in Croydon, and regular cleaning helps keep composite bonding in Croydon looking good. Your dentist or hygienist will recommend how often you should come.

A polish can lift surface staining from things like tea, coffee and smoking. Deeper discolouration may need whitening, which we can discuss with you. Results vary.
Braces and aligners make cleaning harder, so hygiene visits can be helpful during treatment. Ask our team for advice at your next appointment.
