Dental implants · Addiscombe, Croydon
Replace one missing tooth with an implant and crown that looks and feels like your own, without filing down the teeth either side. Planned with a 3D CBCT scan and placed by our implant dentist, Dr Anti, at 202 Lower Addiscombe Road.
A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone where the tooth root used to be. Once it has bonded with the bone, a custom crown is fitted on top. The result is a single, fixed replacement tooth that you brush and floss like the rest of your teeth.
Sport, a fall or an accident can leave a gap at the front. An implant can replace it without touching the teeth next to it.
When a tooth cannot be saved, it can often be removed and replaced with an implant once the area has healed.
Older gaps can still be treated. Your 3D scan shows whether there is enough bone, or whether a graft might be needed first.
Some people prefer not to have healthy neighbouring teeth prepared for a bridge, or a removable plate. An implant stands on its own.
Implants are normally placed once the jaw has finished growing, usually in early adulthood. For a younger patient who has lost a tooth, we can talk about temporary options until then.
The crown is shaded to match your own teeth, so it blends in when you smile.
For front teeth we usually plan a temporary so you are not left with a visible gap while you heal.
Most people return to work the next day. Some tenderness and swelling for a few days is normal.

With good brushing, cleaning between the teeth and regular check-ups, implants can last for many years. The crown on top may need replacing at some point, just like any crown.
The implant is placed under local anaesthetic, so you should not feel pain during the procedure. Afterwards, everyday painkillers usually manage any soreness. We do not offer sedation.
Neither is right for everyone. An implant leaves the neighbouring teeth untouched and supports the bone, while a bridge can be quicker and costs less upfront. We will go through both with you.
Your scan shows how much bone there is. If you need a bone graft, we will explain why and include it in your written quote before you decide.
Implants are very rarely available on the NHS. We provide them privately and can talk you through NHS alternatives such as bridges and dentures.
