Croydon Dental Practice · Addiscombe Orthodontics
Straighten your teeth with a series of clear, removable aligners, planned and overseen by Dr Sarah Sadek, specialist orthodontist. Choose AddaSmile, a clear aligner brand and a more affordable option, or Invisalign, at our dentist in Croydon on Lower Addiscombe Road.
Clear aligners are thin, close-fitting plastic trays made to fit your teeth. Each set is shaped slightly differently from the one before, so as you move through the series your teeth are guided step by step towards the planned position. You change to a new set at regular intervals and come in for check-ups so we can confirm things are on track.
Because they are clear, aligners are discreet in day-to-day life, and because they are removable you can take them out to eat, drink anything other than water, brush and floss. The trade-off is that they only work while you are wearing them. Most treatment plans ask you to wear aligners for around 20 to 22 hours a day, every day. If they spend too long in the case, teeth do not move as planned and treatment takes longer.
Both options are planned and overseen by Dr Sarah Sadek, specialist orthodontist. At your consultation she will explain which is suitable for your teeth and why.
AddaSmile is a clear aligner brand, offered as a more affordable option. The all-inclusive plan covers upper and lower aligners, a whitening kit, fixed and removable retainers, and your check-ups during treatment.
From £1,499 all-inclusive
Invisalign is a widely known clear aligner system. Some patients prefer it, and for certain cases it may be recommended. Read more on our Invisalign in Croydon page.
From £1,850
For some bites, fixed braces are the more suitable choice. See adult braces in Croydon. A braces consultation is £65.

Clear aligners can be a good fit for many adults and older teenagers with mild to moderate crowding, small gaps, or teeth that have moved since earlier orthodontic treatment. They are not suitable for everyone, and we will tell you honestly if they are not the right option for you.
More complex problems, such as large differences between the upper and lower jaws, significantly rotated teeth, deep or open bites, or cases that need major movement of the roots, may be better treated with fixed braces or a combination of approaches. Some adults with jaw discrepancies may need a joint plan with a hospital team. Read about all our options on the orthodontics page.
Your teeth and gums need to be healthy before aligner treatment starts. If you have untreated decay or active gum disease, we will ask you to have that treated first, either with your own dentist or at our practice. Straightening teeth does not fix discoloured or worn teeth, though some patients choose teeth whitening or composite bonding afterwards.
Treatment length depends on how much your teeth need to move. Many mild cases take several months; others take a year or more. Your plan gives you an estimate.
A few habits make treatment smoother.
Some people notice a slight lisp for the first few days. This usually settles as your tongue gets used to the aligners.
Each new set can feel tight for a day or two. This is normal; over-the-counter pain relief can help if needed.
Take aligners out for meals and drinks other than plain water, then brush before putting them back in.
Rinse and gently brush your aligners daily. Keep them in their case when not in your mouth, away from pets and napkins.
Teeth naturally tend to drift back towards their old positions, and they keep moving slowly throughout life. That is why we recommend wearing retainers for as long as you want your teeth to stay straight. The AddaSmile all-inclusive plan includes both fixed and removable retainers. Our retainers in Croydon page explains the options and what to do if one is lost or broken.
Like any orthodontic treatment, aligners carry some risks, which we explain at your consultation. These include gum soreness, decay if teeth are not cleaned well, root shortening in some cases, and teeth not moving exactly as planned. Results vary from person to person.
Your exact cost is confirmed in writing after your consultation and records.
